OpenAI Accelerates ChatGPT App Store Launch, Integrates Apple Music

OpenAI has launched its ChatGPT App Store, which is accessible through personal settings, according to information reviewed by toolmesh.ai. The company is enabling monetization for ChatGPT applications, allowing individual developers to earn revenue. Users can access the store by navigating to "Personal Settings" then "Apps," and searching "All Apps." This launch precedes OpenAI's previously stated Q1 2026 timeline for the App Store's official release.
OpenAI has begun accepting developer submissions, and the store already features several applications. Among these is an integration with Apple Music, which allows users to employ natural language within ChatGPT to locate songs, generate playlists, and preview music.
Apple Music Integration
To connect with Apple Music, users select the desired application and click "Connect." This process does not require a download or installation. Users can link their Apple account or proceed as a guest. Connecting an Apple account enables synchronization and linking of tracks, allowing users to add songs, albums, and playlists directly to their Apple Music account.
Once connected, ChatGPT facilitates direct interaction with Apple Music. Users can search for songs, artists, albums, and playlists. Music discovery, playlist generation, and snippet previews are available even without an Apple Music subscription. The system recommends music based on stated styles, moods, or scenarios. While a subscription is not mandatory for discovery and previews, subscribers can add content to their playlists with one click. ChatGPT can also automatically generate playlists, such as "Today's Latest Hot Songs" or "Chill Vibes," based on user prompts.
For example, users can ask ChatGPT to "generate a 'Today's Latest Hot Songs' playlist" or "find some new songs with a 'chill, relaxing vibe.'" ChatGPT recognizes user intent and interfaces with Apple Music to fulfill these requests without requiring users to open the Apple Music application directly. Currently, the integration primarily recommends lists or finds specific songs, rather than playing them directly. Additional features are expected to be added.
Developer Opportunities and Future Plans
OpenAI stated that the first public applications were anticipated in early 2026, but the company has accelerated its timeline. During the current beta phase, developers can embed external links to their websites or mobile applications within ChatGPT applications. This allows users to complete external transactions, such as purchasing physical goods or registering for services.
OpenAI's future plans for the App Store include supporting in-app purchases for digital goods, implementing subscription and membership systems, and providing a revenue-sharing mechanism for developers. The company appears to be simultaneously launching, refining, and testing business models.
The current focus for developers is not merely on the number of available applications, but on which applications achieve high usage frequency, retention, and monetization. For developers, this period represents an early opportunity with potentially low trial-and-error costs and high exposure.
