Zhipu Launches GLM-5-Turbo; Taobao AI Fraud Case Ruled; Voice Actors Protest AI Infringement

Court Rules Against AI Image Fraud on Taobao

The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court in Guangdong Province recently issued a ruling in a case involving a Taobao merchant who used AI-generated images to defraud consumers. The court determined that the merchant's actions violated principles of honest business operation and constituted fraud. The ruling ordered the merchant to issue a refund and pay triple the compensation to the consumer. This marks the first court decision in China addressing a business operator's misuse of AI technology.

Voice Actors Protest Unauthorized AI Use of Voices

Over 20 voice actors from 729 Voice Factory, including Gu Jiangshan and Zhang Fuzheng, have publicly issued statements on Weibo regarding AI infringement. They asserted that they have not authorized any AI entity to collect or use their voices. Separately, voice actors Shi Zekun and Zhang Lei have also made similar statements on their personal platforms, clarifying that they have not granted permission for their voices to be used in AI model training or content generation. These voice actors have initiated legal proceedings concerning the unauthorized use and theft of their voices by AI. This follows a previous incident where Guangzhou Original Power Culture Communication Co., Ltd., copyright holder of the animated series "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf," accused a Chongqing company of using AI technology to generate audio highly similar to the original character voices without authorization.
