Tencent's AI assistant, WorkBuddy, has expanded its capabilities by integrating mini-program support, allowing users to manage tasks and interact with their computers remotely. The platform, which has been under development, is designed to transform how users approach daily tasks by leveraging AI as a "digital colleague."

WorkBuddy's integration with mini-programs enables users to perform a variety of functions directly from their mobile devices, including code deployment and remote computer access. This functionality is particularly beneficial for non-engineers who can deploy code written within WorkBuddy to Tencent Cloud CloudBase without needing to manage cloud services directly.

Expanding AI Capabilities with Mini-Programs

The introduction of mini-program support allows WorkBuddy to connect directly to a user's local computer, facilitating remote operations. This feature proved useful for tasks such as accessing an office computer while away. The system supports both cloud-based and local modes, offering flexibility depending on user needs.

In cloud mode, tasks are processed on Tencent's servers, eliminating the need for a local computer. This mode is suitable for users who prefer a barrier-free experience, allowing them to assign tasks directly through the mini-program. For instance, WorkBuddy can analyze complex documents, such as medical examination reports, and generate structured outputs like Word documents, a capability that extends beyond traditional chatbot functions.

The local mode, conversely, enables the mini-program to connect to a user's computer, granting AI direct access to local files for reading, editing, and processing. This is particularly useful for tasks requiring interaction with files stored on a personal computer. An example cited involved using WorkBuddy to proofread and correct typos in a document stored on a local machine, with the AI directly updating the file. This contrasts with earlier AI tools that would identify errors but require manual correction.

Streamlining Workflows and Reducing Context Switching

WorkBuddy aims to automate routine tasks that typically consume significant time and effort. Examples include extracting images from articles, analyzing large Excel files, or generating presentations from lengthy texts. The platform can process these requests, even when initiated via voice commands, and integrate with company templates for outputs like PowerPoint presentations.

The system supports various mainstream domestic AI models without requiring users to obtain API keys or perform complex configurations. New users are offered 5,000 points, with an additional 100 points for daily logins, making the service accessible for non-high-frequency use cases. This promotional offer is scheduled to conclude on March 31.

The developers emphasize that WorkBuddy represents a shift from tools that merely accelerate tasks to an AI that performs tasks autonomously. This paradigm encourages users to re-evaluate their work habits, prompting them to consider if AI can handle a task before engaging in it themselves. This approach not only improves efficiency but also reduces context switching, allowing users to maintain focus on higher-level analytical and decision-making processes. For the local mode to function, the connected computer must remain powered on and not enter sleep mode, a setting configurable within the WorkBuddy PC client.
